The first bequest, with dowry, received by FAI is a building in the historic centre of Lavagna, a coherent example of the typically Ligurian fin-de-siècle style in terms of external decorations and architectural structure. Rich in period furnishings and paintings, Casa Carbone in short exceptionally preserves intact the domestic environment of a middle-class family of the 1900s in Liguria before "the requirements of our civilisation depersonalised our homes" to quote brother and sister Emanuele and Syria Carbone, the last people to live in the house prior to its donation to FAI.
